Today my mom and I did the Race for the Cure. It was the 17th annual race. It was a lot of fun, and it was great to be a part of something that touches some many people in the community.
It was astounding to see the number of you women (people who looked my age) who were wearing the pink survivors shirts. It made me think about how I should be more careful about my health.
Mom mom said it was very emotional seeing people with pink "in memory of" or "in celebration of" tags on their back. It brings back a lot of memories for her. I thought it was emotional seeing those tags, too; but I felt that way because cancer has touched some many people. It had a bittersweet feeling - sad for the devastation cancer causes, but sweet for the love and connection people have to each other and for the comradery cancer can bring.
Here are some pictures. The first is of my mom and me on the pink ribbon lane before the race started. I am in my regular white Race for the Cure shirt. She is in her pink survivor shirt.
The second picture is of the race route in mid race. I believe we were almost done with mile 1 when I took this picture. There were mountains of people in front of us and behind us. There was also a number of people cheering us on from the sidewalks.
The final picture is of me after the race. I am in front of the Lynn Park fountain. They turned it pink for race day.
